Did you know that you can use the number 1 to express other numbers? for example you can get nine as (1+1+1)(1+1+1) or even 1+1+1*1^1+1. Numbers like this can be expressed or even shown how they get that far when they are expressed in 1's.

Exponents are helpful because they help us simplify things, and they help us solve things without having to count out numbers. If you put 7*7*7*7*7*7*7*7*7*7*7*7, you would have to count out every single 7. If you put 7 and the power, you will get things done a lot sooner, and it is almost full proof on accuracy because if you do it that way then you don't have to worry about miscounting, powers just simplify things and help things out.
